Overseas Workdays Relief applied to gross income

Following guidance received from HMRC, the application’s calculations have been updated to calculate Overseas Workdays Relief on gross income rather than on net income as was done before the FIG regime commenced.  To facilitate this, the Gross up amount from the Cash Payments tab in an employment income record will be included in the initial total Income on the Overseas workdays relief tab.  The core functionalities of the Overseas Workdays Relief module have not been changed.

Quality Improvements

Residence and FIG Regime etc. - Remove validation on Box NRD23

The validation has been removed from the Box 23 (Date of arrival in the UK) field of the Residence and FIG Regime etc. window.

A claim can be made for FIG relief if the taxpayer became resident in the UK in the tax year or during the previous 3 tax years (after a period of at least ten tax years of not being UK resident).  The validation of the box entry prevented a date of more than 3 years before the start date of the tax year being entered.  This caused complication in some circumstances where date of arrival in UK was earlier than date of becoming resident in UK.

Claim under FIG regime on Business Profits (SA100) (ITS 68518)

A claim shown in Box 76.1 of SA103F is now being reflected in SA302.

Foreign Tax Credit on Partnership Income (SA100) (ITS 68520)

In claims for foreign tax credit in respect of partnership income, the total of figures in the Gross amount on which tax paid column was being restricted by reference to the amount in Box 20 of SA104F.

This precluded making a claim for Foreign Tax Credit on items such as transition profit taxed in the year.

Validations have been removed from the foreign tax credit screen to stop this situation. There are still validations to prevent a claim being made on trading income for FIG relief of more than the amount in SA104F Box 20.

Similar changes to validations have been made to Foreign Tax Credit screens for non trading income received through partnership.

Generation of IRMark for Tax Return containing OWR claim

Generation of IRMark for “Non Expat Tax Returns” containing an OWR claim failed due to synchronisation issues.

This has been fixed.

Validation on Country selection within SA100 Foreign: Other Income

A validation appears if a country has not been selected for an entry within Foreign: Other Income.

Notable Issues

Link between SA900 and SA100 Foreign: Other Income

Some anomalies have been noticed in respect of the flow of income from R185 to SA100. For instance, if you add income for beneficiary who already has income from trust to R185 for linking to SA100, the new income rows on SA100 are populated with countries that were used for similar types of income.

We will consider an amendment for this in a future release.

Saving cases with multiple expat employment income records

Occasionally for cases which contain more than one expat employment income record, the user may not be able to save the employment income records. This issue can be addressed through navigating to the main Employments window and saving from there.

Overseas Workday Relief – Allocation Period

For some cases, in the Overseas workdays relief tab, a user may not be able to include the sum of the net income and its associated gross up amount for a given Allocation period row in its Income cell.  If so, then an allocation warning modal window would appear.

This can be addressed through reporting the income and gross up amount in separate Allocation period rows and populating the override field or day count boxes in the associated analysis windows accordingly.

We will consider an amendment for this in a future release.
