How to Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access and helps protect organisational and client data. Passwords alone are no longer sufficient to protect accounts against modern cybersecurity threats.

Mandatory MFA helps to protect organisations, reduce credential-based attacks, improve overall account security, and align with industry security best practices.

Multi-Factor Authentication Options

Wolters Kluwer Account provides three methods for receiving MFA codes:

1. Authentication App
2. SMS
3. Email

During account creation/activation you are requested to configure one of these options. You can configure additional options later on via the method applicable to the application/s you have access to – usually via ‘My Profile’ or ‘My Login Preferences’ within the application.

Option 1: Authenticator App

An authenticator app generates a 6-digit code on your mobile or tablet device.

Step-by-step: Set up an authenticator app

1. Select the Authentication App option and select Next. You can click on any of the hyperlinks to download the authentication app if you don’t already have one installed. All authentication applications can be used. Not just the ones listed.

2. Open your preferred Authenticator app on your mobile or tablet device.

3. Scan the QR code displayed on your screen using the app.

4. The app will generate a 6-digit code. (The image below will be slightly different on an Android device to an Apple device and will also differ between authentication applications)

5. Enter the code and select Save.

6. Save your recovery codes securely. Recovery codes can be used in place of an MFA code if you don’t have access to your device to receive the MFA code.
